The woman wears the haku patasi — a black cotton sari with a fine red border — with a patuka waist sash, ikat-pattern blouse and a pink-embroidered shawl, finished with the tayo and green pote of a Newar bride. The man wears tapalan (a long white daura), suruwal and the black-and-white istakot waistcoat with a white bhadgaunle-style cap, the everyday formal dress of Kathmandu Valley.
